Overview
SepFluor is rapidly emerging as the ‘new name’ in fluorspar exploration, mining and beneficiation in South Africa and globally. SepFluor, founded in 2004, is a HDSA-compliant company.
SepFluor’s portfolio includes its world-class operating Nokeng Fluorspar Mine, the Wallmannsthal Fluorspar Mine project with a Pre-feasibility Study (PFS) in place, and a Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS) completed for construction of a fluorochemical beneficiation plant.
Nokeng Fluorspar Mine, situated north-east of Pretoria in South Africa’s Gauteng province, has an estimated total Mineral Reserve (SAMREC-compliant) of 12Mt, contained in two deposits, Plattekop and Outwash Fan. At Wallmannsthal Fluorspar Mine, also north of Pretoria, a 7.9Mt Resource (SAMREC-compliant) has been estimated.
The company’s other assets, being the Kruidfontein fluorspar deposit and the Wiltin deposit at Nokeng, are early-stage exploration projects showing potential.
A fluorochemical beneficiation plant is to be developed against a background of both growing demand throughout Southern Africa and globally for fluorochemical products, and South African Government support for downstream beneficiation of minerals and the development of a fluorochemical initiative in the country.
NOKENG FLAGSHIP OPERATION
- Peak production: 180ktpa acidspar
- Reserves: 9.4Mt containing 2.6Mt of calcium fluoride (CaF2)
- Near surface mineral deposit with simple open pit mining method
- Run of Mine (ROM) feed rate: 720ktpa producing ~170 to 180kt acidspar ~4 years, reducing to 135kt pending development of Wiltin deposit
- In production since 2019
WALLMANNSTHAL ADDITIONAL RESOURCES
- 7.9Mt resource containing 3.6Mt CaF2
- Near surface mineral deposit with simple open pit mining method
- 19-year Life of Mine (LOM) at ~400ktpa ROM production
- 119ktpa fluorspar production, buildup starting earliest late 2027
SEPCHEM DOWNSTREAM BENEFICIATION POTENTIAL
- Studies undertaken on establishment of fluorochemical plant close to Nokeng and Wallmannsthal
- Envisaged production:
- anhydrous hydrogen fluoride: 60ktpa
- aluminium fluoride (AIF3): 60ktpa
